Having had the extraordinary opportunity to attend the civil fraud trial of Donald J. Trump, et al. brought by the New York State Attorney General, and now that the trial is over, we wish to commend Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur F. Engoron for his excellent judicial temperament and skillful handling of a challenging proceeding.

Despite the threats leveled at him, his family, and his staff, with frivolous arguments piled onto them, Engoron remained calm and patient. His ability to deflect persistent provocations, presumably intended to cause reversible error or a mistrial, was a testament to his judgecraft. From our perspective, he was just being himself: wise, deliberate, and careful.
