A white-collar defense attorney and former prosecutor who was the first Black person inducted as president of the New York County Lawyers Association were recognized for their devotion to “change and justice” at the Weinberg Center for Elder Justice’s 12th annual Awards of Distinction breakfast.

On May 6, the center presented its Champion for Change Award to Denis McInerney, senior counsel at Davis, Polk & Wardwell; and its Champion of Justice Award to Catherine Christian, a partner at litigation boutique Liston Abramson who spent more than three decades with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and who in 2007 became the first African American and the second woman to serve as president of NYCLA since the bar association group’s founding in 1908.
