A bill that aims to relegate New York State Supreme Court judicial races to downballot status has cleared both legislative houses.
The Assembly approved A725/S5943 by a 2-1 margin on Tuesday, after the measure died in committee in 2023.
Its Democratic backers predict the bill will promote stronger voter turnout for political races that voters care more about, while Republican opponents painted it as a slight to the judiciary, and a solution in search of a problem.
