U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger of the District of New Jersey took the witness stand Wednesday afternoon in the bribery trial of U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey, telling jurors that Menendez urged him to “look…carefully” at the office’s investigation into one of the men now on trial alongside Menendez.

Sellinger recounted that the conversation took place in December 2020, as he and Menendez were discussing whether Menendez would recommend Sellinger, then a partner at Greenberg Traurig, to be the next U.S. attorney for New Jersey.
