Paul Hastings partner Adam Fee on Tuesday told the jurors who will soon decide whether his client, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey, is guilty of bribery, extortion, fraud and obstruction of justice to consider whether prosecutors have invented “a story” unsupported by evidence.

“The absence of evidence should be held against the prosecution,” Fee said. “Know what I mean? It’s their burden and they are exploiting the gaps in the case they have presented to you and filling it in with incriminating inferences.”
