Five-term incumbent Albany County District Attorney David Soares launched a write-in campaign to retain office Wednesday, less than a month after he was decisively defeated by longtime defense attorney Lee Kindlon in a low-turnout Democratic primary in New York’s capital city.

Soares’ campaign has been bolstered by significant contributions since the June 25 primary, when Kindlon secured 11,885 votes to Soares’ 9,656, a more than 10% differential in a contest in which 22,150 total ballots were cast, according to county results. There are nearly 188,000 enrolled voters in Albany County, most of whom are Democrats.
