At a conference on July 23, 2019, then President Donald Trump claimed that according to Article II of the Constitution, “I have the right to do whatever I want as president.”

In the aptly titled decision Trump v. United States, the U.S. Supreme Court’s six conservative justices agreed. They effectively upheld Trump’s attack on the justice system, the rule of law, and democracy itself. According to these justices, every lawless and criminal act committed by Trump to hold onto his presidency and prevent the transfer of power to Joseph Biden is immune from prosecution.
