New York’s top court appeared to lean toward affirming the constitutionality of the no-excuse, vote-by-mail law ushered in by state Democratic lawmakers in January.

During more than an hour of arguments on Tuesday, a number of Court of Appeals judges appeared to indicate the new law is on solid ground, given a constitutional amendment effective as of 1967 removed language that had previously mandated in-person voting, with limited exceptions for absentee voting.
