The American Bar Association in July issued Formal Ethics Opinion 512 (the "opinion") addressing lawyers' use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) and, as discussed below, it highlights issues that otherwise might not always be apparent to counsel. Many lessons are taught by the opinion and they should become part of a lawyer's calculus when using GAI.
