Some of New York’s backlogged family courts are set to get relief as of the Nov. 5 general election, when voters decide two dozen newly created judgeships, with New York City’s mayor to appoint another four.

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signing of a bill in late July made for a truncated campaign cycle, with candidates appearing on local ballots through county political committees. The election was just 54 days away as of Wednesday.
