Eighties pop star Eddy Grant and other plaintiffs sued Donald Trump and his presidential election campaign for infringing on the musical composition and sound recording of "Electric Avenue" in a third-party produced animated video for the 2020 presidential election campaign, which Trump posted on his personal Twitter account.

Denying Trump and his codefendants partial summary judgment to dismiss the sound recording infringement claim for lack of a valid copyright registration, U.S. District Judge John Koeltl of the Southern District of New York granted plaintiffs summary judgment as to liability.
