Google on Thursday was on the losing end of a New York workers' compensation claim concerning an account executive seriously injured as he looked for a public bus on leaving an off-site "happy hour" event.

The Appellate Division, Third Department's 5-0 determination by Justice Christine M. Clark said the claimant's injuries arose from his employment, despite the informal nature of a happy hour. It was an invitation-only event that employees had been encouraged to attend, to network with one of Google's premiere business partners for its Cloud services.
