The right to a fair trial is an elementary idea that is recognized across the country. "An accused is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt." People v. Razezicz, 206 N.Y. 249; People v. Sutherland, 259 N.Y. 86; People v. Mallard, 247 A.D. 253. Legislation proposed recently is attempting to infringe upon the fair trial rights of individuals accused of sex crimes through new legislation with an addition to the Criminal Procedure Law. Bill Number A10588 is just that, an attack on a person's right to a fair trial.
