Large law firms have lately filed a flurry of collections claims in New York against ex-clients, seeking hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in unpaid legal fees.

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, Baker McKenzie; ArentFox Schiff and Dorsey & Whitney are among those who have brought collection claims in the last few weeks in New York, whether in court or arbitration. The collection disputes come as fourth-quarter collection goals ramp up in Big Law and as law firms become more comfortable with pursuing ex-clients in court for unpaid fees.
