The Southern District of New York courthouse in Lower Manhattan sees some of the most high-profile and high-stakes cases of any federal venue in the United States. But some of the biggest scares in the courthouse can be found in District Executive Edward Friedland's office. For the second year, Friedland and his staff have gotten into the spooky season spirit and turned their workspace into an office of horrors, using Friedland's personal collection of life-size animatronics to create elaborate displays from film classics like "Beetlejuice," "Scream" and "Frankenstein" that will be judged as part of competition. Judging for the competition is being handled by a group of actual district and magistrate judges from the Southern District bench and appellate judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. A winner will be announced on Halloween.
