A central New York judge is resigning from two justice courts, with a year remaining on her terms, amid a probe alleging she mishandled a protection order, the state Commission on Judicial Conduct said on Wednesday.

Justice Kathy Wachtman, who serves in Wolcott Village Court and Huron Town Court in Wayne County, was being investigated for a complaint that she issued the order of protection on Feb. 8, 2022, in a case pending before her co-judge, without notice to the defendant.
