George Tillman was killed in an April 2016 fatal police shooting in Ozone Park, Queens that attracted a number of local headlines. Then-Queens District Attorney Richard Brown found that the New York City Police Department officer who killed Tillman acted in self defense, while Tillman's estate filed suit against the city.
In the long-running federal litigation that has ensued, David Balash, the estate's forensic ballistics expert, criticized several conclusions reached by Kristen Landi, the medical examiner who conducted the autopsy of Tillman—particularly as to the source and trajectories of several bullets that struck Tillman.
