Last year a finance worker at a Hong Kong multinational firm was tricked into transferring $25 million to fraudsters after conducting a video conference with whom he thought was the firm’s CFO and several other senior officers. None of the participants in the video conference were real. “(In the) multi-person video conference, it turns out that everyone [he saw] was fake,” reported Senior Police Superintendent Baron Chan Shun-ching.
