President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that he pardoned Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, an online marketplace notorious for the sale of heroin, cocaine, LSD, and other illegal drugs.

In doing so, attorneys said that Trump appeared to have acted on two campaign promises he made in the lead-up to the November election. First, to significantly and publicly reverse course on the crackdown by federal agencies on the cryptocurrency sector. Second, Trump promised at the Libertarian Party's national convention in May to free Ulbricht from prison.
