John Schulman, the former general counsel of Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., has joined the University of Southern California Gould School of Law to open and run a new entertainment law program. Mr. Schulman, who retired from Warner Bros. last year, joined USC as executive director of the program on Aug. 1. He will take the lead in crafting the details of the program, said Robert K. Rasmussen, dean of the law school.

Mr. Schulman served as executive vice president and general counsel at Warner Bros. for more than 25 years. He joined the company in 1981 to help launch its legal department, which grew to 150 attorneys. “I have throughout my years as a lawyer been involved in education,” he said. “I’ve lectured at Southwestern, USC, UCLA, Berkeley. I like the process, I like the excitement. I’ve never taught and not learned myself. It’s exciting.” He said he envisioned a program with practical experience, with mock trials or clinics.
