ALBANY – Former state Senate majority leader Joseph Bruno goes on trial beginning today in federal court for using his legislative perch to enrich himself through state contracts and labor union consultant contracts.

Mr. Bruno, now an executive with an information technology consulting company, faces eight counts of theft of honest services in the trial set to begin with jury selection before Northern District Judge Gary L. Sharpe. The Republican lawmaker could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count, the government says.
