ALBANY – Candidates for state attorney general have raised millions of dollars in the first phase of the campaign to succeed Andrew M. Cuomo if, as is widely expected, the popular incumbent challenges David A. Paterson for the Democratic nomination for governor this year.

The field of potential contenders began to come into focus as candidates filed required fund-raising disclosure reports Friday with the state Board of Elections for the period from July 15, 2009 through Jan. 15, 2010.
