With signs that financial upheaval in the legal industry is beginning to ease somewhat, the program at this week’s New York State Bar Association annual meeting will focus more than last year’s on non-economic issues, such as the ethical implications of lawyer participation in social networking sites and ways to combat wrongful criminal convictions. (See the Program Schedule.)

Based on advanced reservations, the six-day meeting beginning today at the Hilton New York at Sixth Avenue and 53rd Street appeared to be running ahead of last year’s level, state bar President Michael E. Getnick said last week. About 5,000 lawyers participated in the 2009 meeting at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
