The Brooklyn federal courthouse was evacuated yesterday after a woman discovered a black canvas tote bag filled with wires and gauges in front of the building. The bag, the police later determined, was apparently left behind accidentally by a workman. “It doesn’t appear to be a hoax,” New York Police Department Chief Joseph Esposito told reporters. The bomb squad was called, and the building was cleared for about an hour, from 12:30 to 1:30. – Mark Fass

Robins Kaplan Launches N.Y. Office With Lovells Lawyers

Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi has lured three intellectual property lawyers from Lovells to set up shop in New York. Lovells partners David Leichtman and Hillel Parness and of counsel Bryan Vogel will join Robins Kaplan as partners starting today. Martin Lueck, chair of Minneapolis-based Robins Kaplan, said the litigation-oriented firm had been looking to move into New York after building strong relationships with corporate clients based here. The 250-lawyer firm hopes to staff the office with 25 to 30 attorneys, Mr. Lueck said.
