Judge Robert N. Chatigny of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut has been nominated by the White House for an opening on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Judge Chatigny, a 1994 Clinton appointee, served as chief judge in Connecticut from 2003 through 2009. A 1978 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, he is set to become the colleague of two Second Circuit judges he once clerked for, Judge Jose A. Cabranes (then a district court judge in Connecticut) and Judge Jon O. Newman.

If he clears the Senate Judiciary Committee and is confirmed, Judge Chatigny would fill the vacancy that opened when Judge Guido Calabresi took senior status in 2009. Meanwhile, Southern District Judge Denny Chin is awaiting word from the full Senate on his nomination to the Second Circuit.
