Participants in the massive, often bitter litigation over respiratory illnesses suffered by police, firefighters and private workers during the response and cleanup at the World Trade Center after 9/11 hailed as historic the settlement reached on Thursday.
Corporation Counsel Michael A. Cardozo said at a Friday morning news conference that he was relieved the city and the plaintiffs will “be able to put this very difficult chapter of history behind us.”
