Mayer Brown laid off 75 staffers nationally on Thursday, including 28 associates and counsel. Firm chairman Herbert Krueger wrote in an e-mail to all U.S. personnel that “prudent management” mandated the firm align staffing levels “with current and anticipated demand for legal services.”
“Although most of our practices are performing well, overall demand for legal services has not recovered fully, and in today’s tight legal job market, voluntary lawyer departures have been significantly lower than our normal levels,” Krueger said in the e-mail.
