Proskauer Rose has added a finance partner from Mayer Brown amid an uptick in deal work. Ron D. Franklin joined Proskauer last week as the firm looked to expand the senior debt component of its finance practices. Proskauer said Mr. Franklin’s hire would enable the firm to meet client needs and service increased deal flow. “I’ve been very busy from the moment I got here,” Mr. Franklin said.

Mr. Franklin, who had been a partner at Mayer Brown since 2002, said his departure was unrelated to any financial difficulties at the firm. The same day Proskauer announced Mr. Franklin’s hire, Mayer Brown laid off 75 people, including 28 associates and counsel. “It, like every firm, has its issues, but it’s a great place,” Mr. Franklin said of Mayer Brown. – Nate Raymond
