Shipman & Goodwin has announced that it has opened a six-lawyer office in Washington, D.C., after hiring attorneys from Hogan Lovells, one of the world’s largest firms that finalized a merger earlier this month. It is a geographical leap for Shipman & Goodwin, which now has 140 lawyers. The firm, one of the largest based in the state, has Connecticut offices in Hartford, Stamford, Greenwich and Lakeville, and the D.C. office is its first out-of-state location.

The group of new lawyers is led by partner James P. Ruggeri, who has a long-standing relationship with The Hartford Financial Services Group as its national counsel for complex insurance coverage. Scott L. Murphy, the managing partner of Shipman & Goodwin, said in a statement that the addition of the attorneys will “establish a significant new relationship with The Hartford, which will be serviced from both D.C. and Connecticut.”
