In a deal that brings together two major health services providers, Universal Health Services will buy Psychiatric Solutions Inc. for $3.1 billion. The $33.75-per-share cash agreement values Psychiatric Solutions at about $2 billion; Universal Health will acquire about $1.1 billion in debt.

Universal Health, which operates acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities and ambulatory centers around the United States and in Puerto Rico, doubles its number of behavioral health facilities in the transaction. Such facilities will now account for 45 percent of its total revenue, according to The Wall Street Journal. The healthcare management company had 2009 revenues of $5.2 billion.
