Baker & McKenzie confirmed yesterday that it has rescinded offers to 11 deferred associates in its New York office. The firm in January had put on hold its group of incoming first-year associates from the graduating class of 2009. Baker & McKenzie said its New York office “has been unable to accommodate” these 11 lawyers. “We regret having to make this decision, but unfortunately the work required for these individuals has not materialized to a sufficient degree,” the firm said in a statement.
Baker & McKenzie said that more than 30 other previously deferred associates from the 2009 class are now working in its North American offices. Seven others are working with clients on secondments. The news was first reported on the gossip blog Above the Law. — Nate Raymond
