As long as we are celebrating the seasons and considering the passage of time, one might also ponder: Where is the Obama labor agenda? President Barack Obama would not have been elected without the strong support of labor. His election promised to herald in an era of pro-employee legislation. After all, the first bill the new president signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Act, which lifted severe new time restrictions, imposed by the Supreme Court in 2007, on the ability of employees to challenge allegedly discriminatory compensation decisions.

But many proposed pro-union laws appear to be dead or have dropped off the radar, and the reason is obvious: It’s the economy (stupid).
