In the April 2010 Medicaid Update, the New York State Office of Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) “reminded” Medicaid providers that they have an obligation to screen employees, prospective employees, contractors and referral sources to determine if they have been excluded from participation in any of the Federal Health Care Programs.1
This “reminder” is significant because it requires Medicaid providers to conduct these screenings at least monthly. This requirement imposes a substantial burden on health care providers, especially larger ones that have thousands of employees, vendors and referral sources.
