Democratic attorney general candidate Sean Coffey and his wife reported an adjusted gross income of more than $4.7 million in 2009, according to tax returns made public Friday. Mr. Coffey, a former Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann partner, made the returns public following demands by rival Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice for candidates to release their tax returns. Mr. Coffey had previously made public unredacted copies of his financial disclosure forms, showing income and investments last year of at least $6.9 million to $10.5 million.

Ms. Rice, who reported $152,921 in adjusted gross income last year, called on Mr. Coffey to unveil his tax returns after campaign finance reports showed he and state Senator Eric Schneiderman had made personal contributions to their campaigns. Mr. Coffey has personally poured $3.15 million into his effort (NYLJ, July 20). His campaign said the candidate and his wife donated 10 percent of their income—$493,014—last year to charity. Major contributions included $25,000 to the Westchester High School anti-gang program Council for Unity; $25,000 to the Naval Academy Foundation; and $40,000 to Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Coffey’s alma mater.
