DLA Piper has added a former senior trial counsel from the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s Office as a partner. A firm spokesman confirmed John M. Hillebrecht had joined DLA’s litigation practice. His addition comes as part of an effort by the firm to expand its white-collar and investigations practice in New York and nationally. Mr. Hillebrecht spent 15 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in Manhattan, ultimately being appointed in October as senior trial counsel in the complex frauds unit created that same month. Before that, Mr. Hillebrecht had been deputy chief appellate attorney and deputy chief of the organized crime and terrorism unit. He practiced as an associate at Cravath Swaine & Moore before joining the U.S. attorney’s office in 1995. – Nate Raymond
‘Poster Boy’ Appeals Sentence for Violating Terms of Plea
Henry Matyjewicz, the street artist known as Poster Boy, has appealed the one-year sentence he received for violating the terms of a plea agreement stemming from vandalism charges. Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Michael A. Gary imposed the sentence in May after Mr. Matyjewicz was twice arrested—once for fare evasion and once for vandalism—during the three months he performed his community service for the earlier charges and then failed to show up for his sentencing. Mr. Matyjewicz spent a week at Rikers Island before Justice Ruth C. Balkin of the Appellate Division, Second Department, granted his motion for bail pending appeal (NYLJ, May 17).
