Five county bar associations Thursday filed amended court papers, underlining the collapse of an effort to settle the suit to block New York City from modifying the way it finances the legal representation of indigent criminal defendants.

The amendments to New York County Lawyers’ Association v. Bloomberg, 107216/10, contend that a change in state law adopted in June prohibits the city from implementing its proposal without the approval of the bar groups. Plaintiffs are the New York County Lawyers’ Association and the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Richmond County Bar Associations.
