Following a nearly year-long examination of corporate governance prompted by the financial crisis, the New York Stock Exchange’s Commission on Corporate Governance has concluded that corporate boards should prioritize long-term growth over short-term gains.
Additionally, company managers should play a larger role in corporate governance, and boards should not rely too heavily on legislation and agency rule-making in establishing corporate governance strategies, the commission said.
