A Brooklyn assistant district attorney who was suspended in August for failing to notify his office of a personal conflict in a case it was prosecuting has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend. According to a police report, Wynton Sharpe, 39, pushed his 30-year-old girlfriend and punched her in the face early Friday morning. The girlfriend was taken to Kings County Hospital with a swollen right eye. Mr. Sharpe reportedly told police his girlfriend attacked him first.
As of late Friday, Mr. Sharpe had not yet been arraigned, although his office did confirm the arrest. He faces charges of assault, menacing and harassment. The case is expected to be referred to the office of Staten Island District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan Jr., which is already investigating the conflict-of-interest allegations. That probe began after the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office learned that Mr. Sharpe failed to disclose that Wellington Sharpe, Mr. Sharpe’s father, is a longtime political rival of state Senator Kevin S. Parker, whom Mr. Sharpe’s bureau is prosecuting for allegedly assaulting a New York Post photographer (NYLJ, Aug. 13). The assault case against Mr. Parker also has been transferred to Staten Island. — Mark Fass
