Ropes & Gray yesterday announced that it had recruited the co-chair of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan’s private funds group. Sarah Davidoff, who will practice in Ropes & Gray’s hedge fund practice in New York, specializes in advising clients in establishing and operating hedge funds. The Boston-based firm said Ms. Davidoff would solidify its position in the area of funds counseling.

Ms. Davidoff joins Ropes & Gray as hedge funds brace for heightened regulations following the passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The act requires hedge funds, which had largely been unregulated, to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Before joining Stroock in 2006, Ms. Davidoff was counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. She had been a co-hiring partner at Stroock.
