Under the 35-year oversight of former District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, the New York County District Attorney’s office conducted a number of noteworthy corporate investigations. In his last year in office alone, Mr. Morgenthau reached high-profile, highly lucrative settlements with some of the biggest names in the financial industry.1
On Jan. 4, 2010, Cyrus R. Vance Jr. was sworn in as New York County District Attorney. On June 1, 2010, he announced his office’s new policy on the prosecution of corporations and other business entities. It is titled “Considerations in Charging Organizations” and was issued as an Interoffice Memorandum from Chief Assistant District Attorney Daniel R. Alonso. The press release described the policy as “the first in the country to be issued by a local prosecutor’s office.”2
