Steve was a shy, gentle man with a great sense of humor and a giant intellect. His legal acumen was legendary. He loved the law and loved being a lawyer, a judge and particularly an appellate judge. He was most animated and vibrant in discussing legal issues and during oral argument. By being in his presence and benefitting by his knowledge, we all have become better lawyers and judges. Most of all, he was a great family man and friend.

John M. Leventhal
Associate Justice,
Appellate Division Second Department

As one of the newer judges on the Second Department bench, I do not have the breadth of experience with Justice Steven W. Fisher that some of my colleagues do. Nevertheless, his untimely passing has left me with many happy memories of working with a judge’s judge, a mentor and a true friend of the law.
