Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman will swear in new governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the other statewide officeholders during a low-key inaugural event on Saturday at the state Capitol. Lieutenant Governor-elect Robert Duffy also will take the oath of office from the chief judge, as will Attorney General-elect Eric T. Schneiderman and Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
Judge Lippman will actually swear in Mr. Cuomo twice: first at the traditional ceremony for family, close friends and advisers at the Executive Mansion in Albany just after midnight on Saturday and then again 12 hours later in a ceremony for some 175 people in a space on the second floor of the state Capitol known popularly as the “War Room.” The room is so named because of the murals on its walls depicting conflicts in which New Yorkers have fought.
