Fred T. Santucci, who left the bench under mandatory retirement rules at the end of last year, is the new head of the Character and Fitness Committee for the Appellate Division, Second Department. Mr. Santucci, 76, who was first elected to Civil Court in Queens in 1974, sat on the Second Department bench for the last 19 years.

The Character and Fitness Committee in the First Department also has a new executive director, Maria Matos, who had been a staff lawyer with the First Department’s disciplinary committee since 2009. Ms. Matos, 44, had clerked for three judges in the Civil and Supreme courts in the Bronx.
