Chadbourne & Parke has struck a deal to settle a fee dispute with an ex-partner. Last year, Chadbourne sued Charles F. Gibbs, claiming the trust and estates lawyer had failed to pay the firm its share of an $875,000 fee he was awarded in 2009.

Mr. Gibbs, a Law Journal columnist, received the money in connection with work he had performed as guardian at litem to descendents of Marshall Field, the founder of the Chicago-based department store. In a complaint filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Chadbourne, which continued to work on the trusts matter after Mr. Gibbs left the firm to join Holland & Knight in 2000, said that “apart from a small token payment made earlier this year, defendant has refused and continues to refuse to pay the plaintiff the outstanding sums for the decade of legal services plaintiff provided defendant and the associated expenses.” Chadbourne & Parke v. Gibbs, 108552-2010.
