New York State has recently enacted a number of laws of interest to employers. This month’s column reviews these legislative developments.

Wage Act

On Dec. 10, 2010, Governor David A. Paterson signed into law the New York State Wage Theft Prevention Act (Wage Act) (S. 8380). Most significantly, the Wage Act amends New York Labor Law (NYLL) Section 195 with respect to wage notice requirements. Section 195 was previously amended, effective Oct. 26, 2009, to require that employers provide new employees with written notices stating their regular pay rate, overtime pay rate and regular payday.
