Paul A. Engelmayer, the partner-in-charge of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr’s 170-lawyer New York office, has been nominated by President Barack Obama to fill a vacancy on the Southern District bench. Mr. Engelmayer, 49, who joined WilmerHale in 2000, is a member of the firm’s litigation and securities departments, as well as of the investigations and criminal litigation, securities litigation and enforcement and appellate and U.S. Supreme Court practice groups.
Mr. Engelmayer was recommended for the bench last June by U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. At the time, the senator said in a statement that Mr. Englemayer’s “first-rate legal mind and steadfast dedication to the professional administration of justice, and deep knowledge of his community make him an ideal nominee.” If confirmed, Mr. Engelmayer would fill the slot held by Judge Gerard E. Lynch until he was elevated to the Second Circuit in 2009.
