The New York State Board of Law Examiners has completed grading the papers written by applicants for admission to the Bar at the examination held on February 21-22, 2006. The Board examined 3,565 candidates for the February 2006 bar examination, the most that it has ever examined for a February administration of the bar examination. Of the 3,565 candidates examined, 1,635 passed the examination for an overall pass rate of 46%. Of the 1,302 applicants taking the examination for the first time, 793 passed for an overall first time pass rate of 61%.
February candidates included 2,281 candidates who were graduates of an ABA approved law school; 1,244 of them passed for a pass rate of 54.5%. Among the ABA graduates, 839 were taking the examination for the first time; 620 of them passed for a first time pass rate of 74% for ABA graduates.
