LONDON – Olswang has scored a major coup with the hire of an 11-lawyer team from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Berlin, the city where at the height of the Cold War an American president once proudly declared, “Ich bin ein Berliner.” (Unfortunately, in those days of spy vs. spy and the Wall, a “Berliner” was a local pastry and an “Insulaner,” or “islander” was what the natives called themselves.)

The group, which is made up of partners Christian Schede and Martin Wiemann and nine associates, broadly covers corporate real estate, with a focus on M&A and finance. Joint venture and M&A specialist Peter Schorling will be made up to partner on joining Olswang, while Schede will become head of the firm’s real estate practice in Germany.
