Margo Brodie, an Eastern District assistant U.S. attorney who heads the office’s general crimes unit, has been recommended by Senator Charles Schumer for a slot on the Eastern District bench. The vacancy is expected to occur next month when Judge Allyne R. Ross takes senior status, a spokesman for Mr. Schumer said yesterday. Ms. Brodie, 42, is a native of Antigua, and, if nominated and confirmed, she would become the nation’s only sitting federal judge of Caribbean descent, Mr. Schumer said yesterday.

Ms. Brodie has been in the U.S. attorney’s office for about 10 years and was named chief of the general crimes unit in 2007. Before that, she worked on commercial cases at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn for five years. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Ms. Brodie began her legal career as an assistant corporation counsel for New York City. She also has served as a legal advisor to a Nigerian anti-public corruption commission and to law enforcement officials in Trinidad investigating financial and intellectual property crimes.
