A White Plains attorney has been charged with stealing $360,000 from his clients, two sisters who in 2005 sold an apartment on West 51st Street in Manhattan. According to a felony complaint filed in White Plains City Court, attorney Fred E. Rosenberg removed the net proceeds from the sale from his escrow account and spent the funds without their permission. He has pleaded not guilty, and been released on $10,000 bail. If convicted of first-degree grand larceny, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Mr. Rosenberg’s attorney, Michael P. Romano, said he will use the next month before Mr. Rosenberg is due back in court to investigate the charges and decide “upon an appropriate course of action.” — Daniel Wise

Lawyer Sentenced to Prison For Insurance Fraud

A former Suffolk County legislator and attorney was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison earlier this week. Supreme Court Justice James F.X. Doyle in Suffolk County sentenced George O. Guldi after he was convicted in February on second-degree grand larceny and third-degree insurance fraud. After Mr. Guldi’s Westhampton Beach house was destroyed in a November 2008 fire, Countrywide, which held the home’s $1.4 million mortgage, did not receive the insurer’s check. The money instead went to Mr. Guldi’s checking account.
